New Openings

Casual West Coast Vegan Chain Will Expand to Harvard Square and Probably Beyond

Veggie Grill, a California-based vegan restaurant chain, is coming to Harvard Square, as Boston Restaurant Talk recently reported. A representative for Veggie Grill confirmed to Eater via email that the Harvard Square location will open at 57 John F. Kennedy St. sometime this fall.

With more than 30 locations spread out among California, Oregon, Washington, and Illinois, Veggie Grill serves a vegan and largely "gluten friendly" (which, according to the company's website, means gluten-free) menu. Future Veggie Grill Harvard Square customers can expect to see a Beyond Burger on the menu, along with other vegan options like crispy cauliflower, falafel, various tofu dishes, and tempura green beans.

"We conducted market research, and our findings showed that there are a lot of mindful veggie-centric guests in Boston who are looking for our craveable plant-based food," a representative from the restaurant told Eater via email. "In addition, our CEO Steve Heeley lived in Boston for many years and is very familiar with the market."

Veggie Grill is going to occupy a 2,500-square-foot space and will have seating for 40 customers, and this may just be the first of many locations in Greater Boston, per the rep.

"We are very excited to serve the Cambridge and Harvard communities. Our plan is to open more restaurants in the Boston area over time if we find great locations."
